More of It.Baltimore, Maryland, Sun [American](09 June 1856)
Senator Wilson, in a speech at
Worcester said, that when he and others were
conveying Mr. Sumner to his lodgings, Mr. S.
remarked: "I shall give it to them again if God
spares my life.
There is no doubt of it. Mr. Sumner in extremes could not be other than he was in the full
energy of life and debate. He is thoroughly
imbued with his "mission." He is now, beyond
doubt, preparing a copious revenge. Unhappily,
such must be the natural consequence of violence
of any sort. One act begs another, and the
end cannot be foreseen. The Senate has had
some experience now; and as the conservation of
its own dignity and the peace of the community
is within its own keeping, let us hope that the
personalities of debate will be restrained within
the proprieties essential to the decorum of
national legislation.
